Winners outspent opponents in Wyoming primaryCHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Matt Mead spent nearly $1.4 million to win the Wyoming Republican Party's nomination to run for governor — nearly as much as this three main opponents combined. Records filed with the Wyoming Secretary of State's Office show that Mead put more than $1.2 million of his own money into winning last month's primary. He beat State Auditor Rita Meyer, the second-place finisher, by just over 700 votes. The Casper Star-Tribune reports that the top-four Wyoming Republican candidates finished in the same order as their campaign spending totals: Mead and Meyer followed by former Wyoming Agriculture Secretary Ron Micheli and House Speaker Colin Simpson. ___ Information from: Casper Star-Tribune - Casper, http://www.trib.com |
