Gov. Freudenthal pardons former Casper prosecutor

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Gov. Dave Freudenthal has pardoned a former prosecutor who pleaded guilty in 2003 to two felonies and a misdemeanor in a fraud case involving his stepchildren's finances.

Freudenthal on Tuesday issued the pardon for former Casper district attorney Kevin Meenan.

Freudenthal says he's satisfied that Meenan has paid the price for his crimes and did well on probation. Freudenthal says he hopes Meenan will regain his law license.

Lawyer Frank Chapman served as prosecutor in Meenan's case and supported his pardon request.

District Judge Keith Kautz of Torrington presided over Meenan's case. The judge recently wrote a letter opposing the pardon request, saying it would give the impression that public officials are held to a lesser standard than private citizens.
