Story Fish Hatchery remains closed to public

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Story Fish Hatchery in northern Wyoming is scheduled to remain closed to public visitation until June of next year.

The hatchery has been undergoing construction for the past three years and major facility improvements have been completed.

However, hatchery personnel need to address several safety issues and complete major landscaping work before the hatchery can reopen to the general public.

Story Hatchery Superintendent Steve Diekema says the hatchery is conducting tours for schools and large groups by reservation.

The Story hatchery is the Wyoming's oldest operating fish hatchery.

The state Legislature appropriated $2.6 million in 2006 to rehabilitate the facility for brood stock operations.
