Missoula increases HS graduation requirementsMISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — The Missoula County Public School board has voted to increase to 24 the number of credits required for students to graduate from high school, beginning with the incoming freshman class. The increase from 22 credits was approved by the board Tuesday. The state requires a minimum of 20 credits to graduate, but schools are allowed to set their own graduation requirements. Missoula Superintendent Alex Apostle notes that colleges have more stringent entrance requirements. Board member Jim Sadler opposed the change, saying it will hurt students who are already struggling academically and that students who plan to attend college are taking additional credits already. ___ Information from: Missoulian, http://www.missoulian.com |
