Missoula schools may up graduation requirementsMISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — The Missoula County Public Schools board of trustees is scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether to increase the number of credits required for students to graduate from high school. The state minimum is 20 credits and Missoula schools already require 22. The vote Tuesday is to decide whether 24 credits will be required. The proposal is partly a reaction to more stringent entrance requirements for college-bound students. Most trustees support the move, but longtime board member Jim Sadler says the move could hurt students that do not plan to attend college and are already having trouble meeting the 22-credit requirement. He says students that plan to go to college are already graduating with at least 24 credits. ___ Information from: Missoulian, http://www.missoulian.com |
