MISSOULA - Missoula County sheriff's detectives are investigating after some children found a pipe bomb while playing in a Lolo field.

Sheriff's Lt. Rich Maricelli says two boys found the 6-inch-long plastic cylinder with a fuse in a vacant lot and took it home. Then they took it apart, and found it was filled with black gunpowder and bullet casings, BBs and fishing sinkers. The mother of one of the boys called police after she found the materials.

Maricelli says deputies searched the field and didn't find any other bombs or bomb material. He says anyone who finds a similar device should leave it alone and call 911.
