MISSOULA - A 55-year-old man who has multiple DUI convictions has been sentenced to 40 years in prison with 30 years suspended.

Louis Derosier was accused of driving 70 mph in a 55 mph zone northwest of Missoula on Jan. 14. He was arrested after a Montana Highway Patrol trooper noticed a strong odor of alcohol.

Authorities determined that Derosier was serving probation for a felony DUI conviction in 2003 out of Yellowstone County.

Prosecutor Patricia Bower says Derosier's early criminal record was somewhat unclear because one of his DUIs may have been mistakenly filed as a misdemeanor instead of a felony. But it appears he has eight or nine DUI convictions, including five that are felonies.
