BUTTE - A committee charged with recommending a location for the new Southwest Montana Veteran's Home has selected the proposal from Butte-Silver Bow County.

Veteran's Home Site Selection Committee Member Bob Pavlovich says Butte's proposal won out over two others in voting on Thursday. The recommendation now goes to Gov. Brian Schweitzer for his approval.

The 2009 Legislature authorized building the $30 million "cottage-style" retirement home for veterans in one of six southwestern Montana counties. An honorably discharged veteran from each county was named to the committee.

Butte's proposal scored the highest, followed by Anaconda and Dillon. The initial vote was 4-2, but was made unanimous on a second vote. The home is expected to create up to 100 jobs and have a $3.5 million yearly economic benefit. It will be built with $10 million in state money, with the rest coming from federal funds.
