BILLINGS - A 27-year-old Texas man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for causing a head-on crash in Billings that killed a Missoula couple in October 2008.

Corey Brooks Jay of El Paso, Texas, was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in the Montana State Prison with 10 suspended. District Judge Susan Watters also sentenced him to 10 years of probation.

Court records say Jay was westbound on Interstate 90 on Oct. 3, 2008, when he crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck a car head-on, killing 55-year-old David Hanson and 56-year-old Janice Thomas.

In December, a jury found Jay guilty of two counts of negligent homicide and two misdemeanor counts of negligent endangerment because his vehicle nearly hit two other motorists before slamming into the car driven by Hanson.
