BILLINGS - A 38-year-old Shepherd woman has pleaded guilty to causing the death of her 10-year-old daughter in an October 2008 drunken driving crash.

Kacy Joy Laingen pleaded guilty Monday to vehicular homicide while under the influence in the death of MacKenzie Reffalt. Laingen was charged in January 2009 when prosecutors said an investigation found Laingen's blood-alcohol was 0.13 percent at the time of the fatal rollover. Neither were wearing seat belts and both were ejected from the vehicle.

Witnesses said Laingen had been drinking alcohol at a restaurant and declined an offer for a ride home. Deputy Yellowstone County Attorney David Carter told District Judge Todd Baugh that Laingen was pleading guilty without a plea agreement, which usually includes a sentencing recommendation. Baugh scheduled sentencing for June 7.
