Snow geese arriving at Freezeout

GREAT FALLS - A few thousand snow geese have arrived at Freezeout Lake in north-central Montana, on their way to their nesting grounds in Canada.

Freezeout Lake Wildlife Management Area manager Mark Schlepp says there were between 5,000 and 10,000 snow geese in the fields around Freezeout Lake on Monday.

Typically, tens of thousands of the birds make a stop at Freezeout to rest from their flight from their wintering grounds in California, before heading further north.

Freezeout Lake is between Fairfield and Choteau along U.S. Highway 89.
