BILLINGS - A bronze statue to be used as part of a soldier memorial at Fort Benning in Georgia is modeled after a photo of a Montana soldier that appeared on the cover of Time magazine.

The photo of Staff Sgt. Cody Hoefer of Ballantine appeared in the magazine almost six years ago. His mother, Dawn Hoefer, says she was Googling her son's name when she learned about the statue.

Army officials want to build a memorial for the soldiers of the 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry in Fort Benning, Ga., which is the training ground for the infantry. The statue is complete and they're seeking donations to build the rest of the memorial. Hoefer is on his fourth tour of Iraq.
