EPA concerned over Yellowstone snowmobiling plan

By KULR & The Associated Press

BILLINGS - The Environmental Protection Agency says a new proposal for snowmobiling, in Yellowstone National Park, does not do enough to safeguard air quality, human health, wildlife and natural quiet.
EPA officials say the National Park Service should either change its preferred alternative or pick another option.
A draft plan, released by the Park Service earlier this year, would allow 720 snowmobiles and 78 snowcoaches per day into the park. The machines would have to meet noise and pollution standards. And snowmobilers would have to be led by a commercial guide.
The proposal is the latest attempt to resolve the long running controversy over snowmobiling in Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks.
