Wandering Bison Not to Be Slaughtered

HELENA - After tracking down over 300 bison from the Yellowstone area, the National Park Service and the state of Montana have reached an agreement, protecting bison from being slaughtered and cattle from contracting Brucellosis.
Suzanne Lewis, Superintendent of Yellowstone National Park, says Park Services have successfully hazed bison that have wandered outside of park grounds back to their normal grazing territory.
Should they be found near Montana cattle again, there's a new plan in place. "If the bison come back out," Lewis explained, "the state will capture them at the facility that's erected. They will load them onto state vehicles and trailers and they will bring them to the Stevens Creek facility where they park service has holding facilities. And this is on the very northern boundary of the park."
This bison management plan comes a week after Emigrant cattle were found to have Brucellosis, possibly spread by the animals. In years past, bison found outside of the park have been sent to slaughter.
