KALISPELL - An amended charge has been filed against a Canadian man, accused of crashing a rented airplane into a Montana lake in 1982, and leaving his girlfriend to drown.
Jerry Ambrozuk is in custody, awaiting trial in Kalispell on a charge of negligent homicide in the death of Dianne Babcock. Tuesday, Flathead County Attorney Ed Corrigan filed an amended charge of felony theft against him. He says he wants to make sure the charge holds up in court.
Ambrozuk had pleaded no contest to the negligent homicide charge, but changed it to not guilty in March. His trial begins May 21st. Ambrozuk is accused of deliberately flying the rental airplane, in which Babcock was a passenger, into Little Bitterroot Lake, then leaving her to drown as he swam away. He disappeared for the next 24 years, and was found last year in Plano, Texas.
