BOZEMAN - A Bozeman woman has been charged with embezzling more than $10,000 from the garage door business where she worked.

The Gallatin County attorney's office filed embezzlement and felony theft charges against Chona Kardell. Prosecutors say she deposited money belonging to Treasure State door into a personal bank account and also used her employer's funds to buy items for herself between 2007 and 2008.

Interesting that the charges relate to Overtime that the employee worked, the owner signed the check and the checks bounced.... the employee left the company because the owner's paychecks bounced. interesting huh? no the charges were filed over 1 year after the employee left and were based on the owner being a jerk and getting dinged by the montana unemployment division and were in retaliation to the employee leaving.

It seems like at least once every week a new story breaks about a female stealing or embezzling money from the business/bank/non-profit that they work for. Why don't these businesses, and for that matter every business, have internal controls in place to prevent women from stealing or embezzling? My other question is why is this always a woman? Do businesses just trust women more than men, so they don’t control them sufficiently? It just seems odd!
