Deer Lodge man died in hunting camp accident

ANACONDA - The mother of a Deer Lodge man who died in a hunting accident says her son slipped and fell while carrying his rifle and the gun discharged, shooting him in the back of the head.

James Boice died Sunday at a campground southeast of Deer Lodge. Edmae Berryman says her son was hunting elk with two friends when he slipped on a slick log and fell. Berryman says one of her son's friends was with him at the time.

Detective Steve Barclay of the Anaconda Police Department said he could not provide any more information until he receives results from the state crime lab in Missoula.
