GREAT FALLS - A 5-year-old Great Falls boy underwent surgery after being struck by a minivan while crossing the street near his school.

Police say the boy was with a group of children being monitored by a crossing guard after school Wednesday when he was struck by a van and dragged nearly 40 feet.

The boy was trapped under the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. He was hospitalized in stable condition Wednesday evening after undergoing surgery for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police say the van's driver, 32-year-old Roxanna Collins, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian and for not following restrictions on her driver's license that require her to wear corrective lenses. She told police the sun was in her eyes and she did not see the children or the crossing guard.

Hi, how are things going in Montana? People really do need to slow down, leave a little earlier for appointments and such. "Rushing" hurts more people than need be.
