Man arrested in fatal rollover crash near Havre

GREAT FALLS - A 40-year-old Havre man accused of driving drunk and causing a one-vehicle rollover crash that killed his passenger has been arrested on charges of vehicular homicide.

Great Falls police arrested Robert Shepherd on Tuesday on a warrant out of Hill County. He is being held at the Cascade County jail on $50,000 bail.

Shepherd is accused of driving more than 100 mph on Wild Horse Road north of Havre on Sept. 9 when his car drifted into oncoming traffic. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle rolled 2 ½ times before coming to rest near a ditch.

Killed in the crash was 49-year-old Joel Bell of Havre. Shepherd was taken to a local hospital with extensive injuries, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on Nov. 12.
