EAST HELENA - A coroner's inquest has been set for Nov. 23 to examine the details surround the fatal officer-involved shooting of an East Helena man.

The shooting death happened May 29, after two officers responded to a call that 46-year-old Douglas Charles Morrison was intoxicated and suicidal. Police said Morrison was shot after he fired a Colt .45-caliber revolver in the direction of patrol vehicles.

A Jefferson County deputy and a Montana Highway Patrol trooper were involved in the shooting. The Butte/Silver Bow coroner will oversee the inquest, which is required by state law whenever a person dies as the result of an act by a law enforcement officer or while in law enforcement custody.
