GREAT FALLS - A 29-year-old Box Elder man has been sentenced to just over five years in prison for intentionally running a van off the road, injuring two people.

Jesse Knife was sentenced Monday in federal court in Great Falls after previously pleading guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

Prosecutors say Knife was at a party on the Rocky Boy's Reservation on Nov. 29, 2008 that was also attended by a Missoula couple. The Missoula man got into a fight with Knife because he believed Knife was making romantic overtures to the woman.

After the fight, Knife left the party and the Missoula couple, along with two other people, did as well. At some point, Knife ran into the back of their van with his pickup truck, causing it to go off the road and flip over.

Knife admitted hitting the van and said he was driving drunk. Two of the people in the van were hospitalized, including the Missoula woman, who suffered a spinal fracture.
