BOZEMAN - Officials believe fires that damaged two businesses in Bozeman were intentionally set and could be connected.

The first fire was reported at the Not So Nu2U thrift store and Pawn Depot on North Seventh Avenue at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire Chief Jason Shrauger says crews quickly extinguished the blaze, which was started near a couch outside the building. About half an hour later, authorities discovered a second fire just down the street at a U-Haul store. Shrauger says it also involved a torched couch.

The U-Haul fire caused only minor damage. But the owner of the thrift store says he has more than $500,000 in inventory, and he suspects most of the clothing and furniture will have to be thrown away because of smoke damage.

No one was injured in either fire.
