Montana Toss up

BILLINGS - With just days till the general election, CNN says the race is in a dead heat in Montana.

On its Electoral College map CNN.com changed Montana from leaning toward John McCain to a total toss up Sunday. Officials made the change after results of a new CNN poll showed Republican Senator John McCain with only a one percentage lead over Democratic rival Senator Barack Obama.

With 9% of voters saying they're undecided, experts say the election could be very close in the Treasure State.

I'm so proud of Montana. You talk about Maverick. The fact that Montanan's vote all across party lines just proves what wonderful, intelligent, broad-minded folks live in the state. We are all much better served when all different ideas are brought to the table. I hope we end up back home someday.

Remember that Montana Republican party leaders had a caucus several months before the primary, and Ron Paul came in second after Mitt Romney? Paul's name is on the Montana ballot against his wishes, but he is still polling 4% overall, which is not subtracted from Obama's vote but from McCain's. The physical ballot is set up with Paul at the top of the column and Obama at the bottom. McCain is buried in the middle along with a number of fringe candidates.

Montana is on the verge of becoming a progressive state due in part to demographic changes, but also we must consider voter backlash against poor performances of the Republican Gov Martz, President Bush nationally and the disgrace former Senator Burns brought to the state with his verbal assault on fire fighters and other off color behavior. It is good to see Montanans vote with their brains instead of following the demogogery and tradition they inherited from the past.

This comes as no surprise. The GOP has just assumed that Montana will support them for decades. They are going to vote for Ron Paul or Bob Barr to show the party that their votes have to be EARNED.
