MILES CITY - Three Miles City residents have been charged in the shooting deaths of five donkeys and an injury to a sixth earlier this year.

James Cranford, 19, was arrested on Oct. 3, while Corey Knippel has been in jail since May on other charges. A 17-year-old, Ty Nelson, has been charged in Youth Court, as was Knippel, who was 17 at the time of the shootings in April.

Cranford is charged with six felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty by accountability and six counts of criminal mischief by accountability. Knippel and Nelson are named as delinquent youths and serious juvenile offenders for the shootings.

The donkeys belonged to Bonnie and Garry Loomis. Four were found dead on April 20, one died the next day and a sixth has recovered from its injuries. One of the donkeys that died was pregnant and another had a filly just a week earlier.
