Bozeman commission ponders stop-light cameras

BOZEMAN - If you run a red light in Bozeman, a camera might soon be in place to catch you. Police are asking city officials to install several red-light cameras around town to capture still photos of any vehicle running a red light. The vehicle owner would then be sent a ticket in the mail.

Unlike traffic tickets issued on the spot, the red-light ticket would be for a civil infraction, and would not affect points on your driving record. The Bozeman City Commission is expected to decide Oct. 13 whether to approve a three-year contract for the cameras with Redflex Traffic Systems.

Police Lt. Rich McLane says Bozeman would be first in the state with automatic red-light monitoring.
