Former state employee charged in child porn case

HELENA - A former state Department of Transportation employee has been charged with receipt and possession of child pornography. Robert A. Cummings was arraigned in U.S. District Court in Great Falls on Aug. 28 and taken into custody.

Court records say DOT officials called Helena police on Aug. 25 after an external computer drive was hooked up to Cummings' work computer, triggering a warning to software managers. A software analyst accessed the external drive and found images of child pornography. The hard drive was seized and a search warrant obtained.

DOT Director Jim Lynch says Cummings has resigned.
