ANACONDA - A former Anaconda-Deer Lodge County detention officer has pleaded not guilty to stealing nearly $5,000 in cash from the jail's canteen account.

Charles "Ron" Cor Jr. entered his plea to felony theft Wednesday in District Court in Anaconda. Court records say Cor is charged with taking $4,887 from the jail's canteen account between November 2006 and March 2008. He became a detention officer at the jail in January 2005 and his duties included making canteen deposits.

Court records say Cor told authorities he was in debt because of medical bills and that he would repay the money. Some of Cor's court appearances have been rescheduled because he was undergoing chemotherapy.
