MISSOULA - Missoula County officials are requesting more information in an ongoing forest road controversy.

The county filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act for documents leading up to an agreement between the U.S. Forest Service and Plum Creek Timber allowing easements to be used for residential driveways. State and county officials say the proposed easement change could lead to housing in forested areas, and an increased cost to taxpayers for firefighting and other county services.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney James McCubbin has filed a formal appeal with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, seeking memos, e-mails and meeting minutes of the discussion leading up to the easement change. Agriculture Undersecretary Mark Rey says more information is coming, but he won't provide the county with any information protected by attorney-client privilege.
