HELENA - The former executive director of the Helena Indian Alliance has pleaded guilty to stealing about $40,000 from the nonprofit organization.

In July, Donald "Louie" Clayborn pleaded not guilty to "theft from an organization receiving federal funds." He changed his plea Wednesday. Court records state that Clayborn obtained cash advances and reimbursements for work trips that he never went on.

The Indian Alliance's board discovered the problems early last year when they were shown a routine audit from 2005. Clayborn resigned as director in February 2007.
