Bus service rolling for state workers in Helena

HELENA - The roughly 6,000 state workers in Helena now get free rides daily on the Helena Area Transit Service.

State workers now can travel on the city's four HATS routes by showing their state identification cards. State officials last month agreed to give $30,000 to provide the service, money the city in turn used to open a new bus route this week. It connects Helena's west side neighborhoods, downtown and the Capitol Complex.

Workers who rode the bus Tuesday said they appreciated the opportunity to walk a few blocks to a bus stop instead of driving a few miles to and from the office every day.
