MISSOULA - A Bitterroot Valley man has died in a rafting accident on the Bitterroot River north of Sula. The Ravalli County sheriff says it happened about 2 p.m. Sunday, when a raft carrying a husband and wife hit some debris in the water and flipped over.

Sheriff Chris Hoffman says the woman was pulled to safety, and the man was later recovered in the Rocky Knob area along U.S. Highway 93 South. An ambulance took the couple to Marcus Daly Hospital in Hamilton, where the man was pronounced dead. His wife was treated for minor injuries and released.

The names of the two were not immediately released.
