Great Falls standoff ends after fire

GREAT FALLS - Authorities say a three-hour-long standoff in Great Falls has ended after the suspect lit the home he was in on fire and surrendered.

Police arrived at the scene at 2 p.m. after 39-year-old James Messick threatened to commit suicide. They heard several gunshots and Messick lit the house on fire at about 5 p.m.

He was arrested in the backyard at about 5:15 p.m. and was taken to Benefis Healthcare, where he was listed in stable condition.
