Retired Hollywood producer to recast Montana film instruction

HELENA - Retired Hollywood film producer Peter Rosten plans some changes in the film instruction he began offering soon after he moved to the Bitterroot Valley, in 2002.

Rosten established a successful program called Media Arts in the Public Schools, or MAPS. Teenagers have learned how to direct and film movies, public service announcements and music videos. And they've been paid. Now Rosten is a Democratic candidate for the Montana Legislature.

He says MAPS will be sidelined and in late 2009, he will establish a stand-alone film institute in Hamilton, serving both kids and adults. Rosten says tuition will be charged, and scholarships will be available for people unable to pay.

Rosten is unopposed in Montana's June primary election. He wants the Montana House seat held by Ron Stoker, a Republican who faces challenger Julian Milton Jr. in the primary.
