WHITEFISH - A Whitefish man was killed in a motorcycle accident south of Whitefish.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Glen Barcus says it happened about 9 p.m. Sunday on state Highway 40, 2½ miles east of U.S. Highway 93.

Barcus says the man, in his 50s, had just completed passing a westbound pickup truck when he lost control of the motorcycle. He became separated from the bike and hit the right-side ditch at a high rate of speed. Barcus says the man was killed instantly. He was not wearing a helmet.

The victim's name was not immediately released.
