BILLINGS - A student pilot whose plane went down on a training flight to Powell, Wyoming survived with minor injuries and was seen walking around his plane Wednesday morning as rescue crews headed toward the scene, in Montana's Carbon County.

An FAA spokesman says the Rocky Mountain College student contacted his flight instructor via cell phone at about 9 a.m., to report he survived a crash with a dislocated shoulder. That was about 12 hours after he departed on a 70-mile solo training flight from Billings to Powell.

Stan Skrabut is wing commander for the Wyoming Civil Air Patrol. He says a ground rescue crew from Cody arrived at the scene about 8:30 Wednesday morning. They drove in as far as they could, and were able to see the downed aircraft and the pilot walking around. At last word, the rescuers were hiking the rest of the way to the crash site.
