BUTTE - Montana Tech has acquired a jumbo-sized scoreboard for Alumni Coliseum. The $5 million Sony JumboTron stretches 24 feet by 18 feet and broadcasts live action, instant replays and advertising.

Athletic Director Joe McClafferty says the scoreboard will "put us on the map as having one of the top facilities in NAIA." Montana Tech acquired the scoreboard from a Lolo sign owner who bought it from Oregon State University. It was shipped to Montana in three tractor-trailers.

Through fundraising efforts and donations from Fleetwood Gaming owner Jon Dehler of Billings, the school needs only $150,000 to pay off the sign. More funds, however, will be needed to erect it.

McClafferty is confident future advertising revenue will be a boon to the school and its football program. Montana Tech hopes to have the scoreboard up for football season.
