HELENA - Governor Brian Schweitzer is encouraging Montanans to take time to celebrate the state's diversity Monday. Schweitzer says Martin Luther King, Jr. Day should be a time to celebrate the civil rights work of Reverend King but also the diversity that makes Montana so unique.

"I think in Montana we celebrate cultural diversity and while we don't have a large black population in Montana, we do have a large cultural diversity," Schweitzer said. "So in Montana this diversity is celebrated on Martin Luther King Day."

The Governor's Advisory Council on Civil Rights is still holding hearings on the civil rights of many minority groups in Montana. The council says Martin Luther King, Jr.'s message is as relevant Monday as it was 40 years ago.
