GARDINER - The U.S. Forest Service has reopened the Beattie Gulch area north of Yellowstone National Park. The area had been closed since October after two bow hunters were mauled in separate incidents by a grizzly bear.
The first incident occurred September 14 and the second took place October 6. Representatives for the Forest Service say they believe most grizzlies are in their dens for winter. The area contains abundant wildlife, including grizzly bears that specialists say are attracted by carcasses left by hunters.
Hunting in the area was closed Sunday.
