Anesthesiologist pleads guilty to Rx fraudHELENA, Mont. (AP) — The U.S. attorney's office says a Billings anesthesiologist has pleaded guilty to prescription fraud. Cory L. Pickens entered his plea Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull. Prosecutors say from October 2007 through November 2009, Pickens wrote or forged another doctor's signature to write over 70 prescriptions for narcotic painkillers, which he used to support his opiate addiction. The investigation began when several Billings-area pharmacists reported to law enforcement that questionable prescriptions for narcotics were being issued by Pickens to at least six patients. An investigation found most of the patients had no idea their names were being used. Pickens, who is 39, faces up to four years in prison when he is sentenced on Dec. 15. |
