Kalispell man pleads not guilty to assault charges

KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — A 68-year-old Kalispell man police say attacked another man with a hatchet and threw a knife at a responding police officer has pleaded not guilty to two felony assault charges.

The Daily Inter Lake reports that Jerome Hamous made the plea Thursday.

Police say they were called Aug. 20 after Hamous tried to attack a 74-year-old man with a hatchet, a blow police say was deflected by the man's son.

Police say Hamous also slit his throat with a knife. After receiving medical treatment and a psychological evaluation, Hamous was booked into the Flathead County Detention Center, where he remains.

Another hearing is planned for Dec. 8.
