BILLINGS - Billings could soon be leading the U.S. in wind turbine manufacturing starting with a groundbreaking Friday at MSU-B's College of Technology. By November, the C.O.T. will have a ten-kilowatt, vertical wind turbine helping power the campus.

Designed and donated by Japanese company Taisei Techno, this state of the art turbine will stand 42 feet tall and power up to three classrooms. This is the first of its kind in the U.S. and the company is considering placing its U.S. factory here in Billings.

As for the C.O.T., students feel this will help put Billings on the road toward being a leader in sustainability.
"With the new sustainable technology program here, I'm sure it will be a hands-on learning tool for the students enrolled in that program," President of the MSU-B Environmental Awareness Club Joe Krenzer said.

The wind turbine donated by the Japanese manufacturer is valued at $100,000.
