NEAR BILLINGS - Dozens of competitors from across the Western region gathered near the Magic City throughout the weekend for a horse competition.

Competitors from as far away as Canada's Alberta Province gathered at the Intermountain Equestrian Center to compete in the Intercollegiate Western Regional Horse Show, where contestants are judged on skills, as well as reacting to a horse's unpredictable action.

Students from seven universities, including Billings' Rocky Mountain College, competed in the race, and the coach of the Rocky team said she was pleased with her team's performance and results.

"We had a great show, especially today. Today was really good, we had a great year, I believe I have 12 people qualify for the regionals, which is most of my team, so we've had a really good year this year," said Chris Brown, who is an Equestrian Studies professor at RMC.

Winners at this horse show will move on to the semi-finals in March.
