BILLINGS - Stillwater Mining Company is slapped with 27 citations after a recent inspection from the Mine Safety and Health Administration. MSHA officials said the inspection was part of a nationwide effort to look at mines with poor compliance history.

The citations date from mid-November to early December and bring attention to everything from loose rocks on the mine floor and ceiling to poor ventilation. Three of the citations say employees could have had fatal injuries if the issue was not corrected.

MSHA issued 286 citations to the thirteen mines inspected. Stillwater Mining Company mines platinum group metals near Nye and Mcleod. The company declined to comment on the citations.
