Roundup Residents Still Reeling

ROUNDUP - Roundup residents forced out of their homes by flooding are beginning to return. Hundreds more remain stranded in the outlying areas, or without power.

The water in Roundup has receded, but the problems remain. Dozens still haven't been able to return home.

Neighbors have opened their arms and their homes. Evacuees say they don't know what they would've done without friends and family.

"Since the first flood I've been staying up with my moms," said Dale Friock.

"They keep evacuating us, and we keep coming back," said Debbie Gorman.

"When we came back in, the second flood hit, and then out again we went," said Dorothy Adolph.

"Trying to share bathrooms and trying to keep the kids quiet," said Heather Wagner, "it's just hard."

"I've been helping people muck out and everything else," said Lorenz Alt, "that's what neighbors do."

People at the local hardware store say they've ordered more pumps. Building and remodeling supplies remain fully stocked as residents wait to see if melting snowpack will flood their homes again.

"Waiting for the third round," said Wagner as she walked with her kids. "I've been wanting to make a run to Billings, but I can't take the chance," said Gorman of the potential for more floods.

The Musselshell River is blocking #4 Road. About 400 residents are still stranded with no access to emergency services.

"I just pray for them everyday," said Adolph, "hope they get through it."

Emergency coordinators say they've got a helicopter on stand-by in case of a medical emergency and have been delivering supplies by boat. Based on the damage to the road, and depth of the water over it, residents stuck on the other side may be there for some time.

All the highways into and out of Roundup are open at this point. Emergency service crews say they're still trying to shore up parts of the dyke they hope will protect Roundup from yet another round of flooding.
