BILLINGS - An early morning drive-by shooting on Billings' South Side lands a teen in the hospital, and has parents concerned.

Police lights bathed South 27th St. in red and blue Friday morning. An unknown male driver shot an 18-year old Hispanic man just after 5:00 am. He's in a hospital recovering from his wound.

"The fact that it happens this regularly, and the fact that it's people so young, is what really scares us," said concerned parent Wheeler Temple.

Temple picks up his daughter from the bus stop everyday. "It's only a block away," he said, "but there's a lot that can go on here on the Southside, even in broad daylight."

"I don't like to believe that there is gang violence going on in our small town, but I know there is," he said. "You can tell by the way they dress, the kind of cars they drive, the way they all congregate in big groups. I'm definitely thinking (the shooting is) gang related."

Police said they haven't ruled out a gang connection. Area parents are all but sure the connection exists. "It was pretty nice when I first moved down," said Clayton Montclair, "until all this shooting and wannabe gang stuff started happening."

"I do think that there's gang activity in this neighborhood," said Tatiana Morales, "it's definitely something I don't want (my kids) raised around, which we didn't think would be a problem moving to Billings, Montana."

"I don't let my kids play out, at all really, unless I'm standing out here," said Montclair, "all it takes is one missed shot." He said you don't have to be the target to get caught in the crossfire.

Police are not sure at this time how many shots were fired. They did not release any details on the suspect, or suspects.

You're so ignorant you just think of the first thing that pops into your head and type it out? May be you're the one that should go roast one.

Drop these punk wannabe "gangstas" off in downtown Atlanta or Denver. The real gangsters would eat them alive.

It is aparent that low lifes have invaded our city. They have found an easy target like billings to move their drugs through. My worry is that the police in billings are not used to this kind of violence. They need to step it up and start arresting these criminals if not they will have a no win battle on their hands. It is also up to the city officals to wake up and take control of this problem or the murders will be 5 a day.I came from a crime infested city 8 years ago and thought how nice billings montana is and now i see the same things happening here as i did back in the big city. All i can say is that i am armed to the teeth and i will not hesitate to give one of these hoodlums some lead poisoning.
