BILLINGS - It is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with more than 4.5 million young members in its age-related divisions.

Thursday night the Montana Council of Boy Scouts of America celebrated its 100th anniversary at the Crowne Plaza in Billings. There are 8,000 Boy Scouts in Montana.

A scout is taught many values through his young life, like: to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, and brave. They are qualities that stay with them through adulthood. One former Boy Scout, turned prominent businessman, was honored on Thursday. The president and CEO of First Interstate Bank Lyle Knight received the "good scout" award. He said he is humbled to receive the award.

Knight attributes much of his success to his nearly 40 years of involvement with Boy Scouts of America. Both of his sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Knight currently sits on the national executive board of the Boy Scouts of America. He said he's confident that the program will continue to help scout out future leaders for our country.

Frank McAllister, the chairman and CEO of Stillwater Mining Company was also mentioned as a Boy Scout turned business leader.
