Medical Marijuana Community Responds to Proposed Changes

BILLINGS - The medical marijuana community is responding to newly proposed regulations.

The Montana Legislature's website lists 19 bills proposing changes to the state's medical marijuana law. A spokesperson for a group that represent caregivers in the state said he's encouraged by much of the content and believes smart regulation would help the industry.

Billings caregiver Mark Higgins said compromise will be key for growers, even if they don't like some of the changes. "What they have to understand is that this is an industry that for the most part is still federally illegal and that you have to be willing to give and take a little bit," he said.

A bill proposed by State Senator Jeff Essman of Billings would change the application process for those intending to use medical marijuana for chronic pain. The legislature will begin considering the proposals when it convenes January 3rd.

let people make their own decisions. i believe if that is what they want to do and it makes them feel better leave them alone. they are happier that way and we need happier people in this world. less sueing and threating of other people. As my Grandma always put it MYOB (mind your own buisness).

Hey kma, you should not be a citizen if you agree that it is ok to criminalize a medical issue and get a harpoon and kill someone then you are as guilty as them. The only reason you persecute people making their own choices, is because it puts power in your pocket. If one of you idiots runs into me I will make sure that I will sue all pushovers and koolaid drinkers that allow this to happen. wtf? B-)

Hey leonard you should not be a md if you agree that it is ok for illegal grug users to smoke this crap and get in a 2000 pound missle and kill someone then you are as guilty as them. The only reason you defend these liars is because it puts a profit in your pocket. If one of these idiots runs into me i will make sure that i will sue all caregivers and doctors that allow this to happen.

This is the very next item on the Civil Rights agenda, especially when it comes to Medicinal Cannabis, which is still not legal in the majority of States because of the old, outdated "dogma". Medicinal Cannabis is effective in a wide variety of conditions ranging from glaucoma to pain, to muscle spasms to nausea of chemotherapy, to malnutrition. The list can go on, including recent scientific findings that Cannabis can even be an “exit substance” for recovering alcoholics or hard drug/prescription drug abusers. Cannabis is not physically addictive as it lacks a documented physical withdrawal syndrome, and the so-called “gateway drug theory” is invalid and was recently called “half-baked” by a scientific study. Research also determined that there is no connection between smoking Cannabis and lung cancer (which to me demonstrates that Cannabis has anti-cancer properties), that is also being confirmed by the ongoing studies.
