BILLINGS - Last week thousands of parents watched their children leave for their first day of school. Sunday hundreds more hugged goodbye as students moved into MSU Billings.

New students flooded into campus Sunday morning, toting comforters, pillows, and nervous excitement.

With hall decorations in place and luggage carts standing by, 600 students packed in to MSU-B dorms Sunday.

"I'm really anxious and excited to get to know people and just to move in and get everything settled in," Freshman Latisha Powell said.

Latisha's family came with her from Clancy, near Helena, to help with the move. Kinsey Stein's family came from Miles City, 400 miles from Clancy. Now the two girls are neighbors.

"I started buying stuff like two weeks in advance, but I didn't start packing stuff until yesterday," Freshman Kinsey Stein said.

"It has been a family day so we'll go out and eat and have fun today and head back tonight, and leave her with the tears," Kinsey's mom Sharon Stein said.

"I'm excited now that I'm in the dorm room and I can get it decorated how I want it," Kinsey said.

"Today's gonna be the big day because now that we're in the dorm room we can find out what the roommate has so when we leave here today's going to be the expensive day," Sharon said.

Kinsey will major in Pre-Nursing with hopes of becoming a Physician Assistant. But for now it's all about settling into freshman year.

"I hope she has fun and she learns a lot and makes some lifelong friends. College was a great time for me, I really enjoyed it and I hope she has the same experience," Sharon said.

"Have fun and to realize that I don't have to be so shy to people, and to learn good study habits," Kinsey said.

Kinsey and Latisha's sentiments echo through the halls at MSU-B as students start new chapters in their lives.

The students will have a week of fun orientation activities before classes start on September 8.
