Hardin Mayor Determined to Press On

BILLINGS - Despite a week of turmoil, Hardin's Mayor said the city is ready to move on, and continue working towards building a new Police Department.

A week ago Mayor Kim Hammond fired Police Chief Jeffery Arntz and Officer Francesca Brashear; leaving just one officer on the force, Francesca's husband Brandon. The mayor didn't give a reason for the firings saying both were still in a probationary period. Now, Hammond said the city is ready to get up, dust off and move on. She said the hiring process to fill the positions will begin next week.

The city council has approved up to five positions, including that of the new chief. The department has until June 2011 to become fully operational, that's when the Big Horn County Sheriff's Department will pass the baton onto the new department.
