Group Files Suit to Remove Jesus Statue

WHITEFISH - The battle continues over the fate of a controversial Jesus statue in northwestern Montana.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation announced Wednesday it will file suit against the National Forest Service. The Forest Service announced Tuesday they would re-issue a special use permit for the statue, and the foundation doesn't agree with their decision.

The statue has sat atop the Whitefish Mountain ski resort since 1954, and the permit will allow it to remain in place for an additional ten years.

Atheists (and most christians) would object to any government sponsored statue or symbol which promotes any religion. Such displays are prohibited in the US constitution, aka The Law of the Land.

FFRF isn't discriminating. The statue is by implying that christianity as a government sponsorted religion. Just because you have gotten away with breaking the law for a long time doesn't make it legal.

The Freedom from Religion Foundation is headquartered in Wisconsin, but they have members all over the U.S., including Montana.

I believe this athiest group is out of Wisconsin. How dare they discriminate on our religious beliefs here in Montana, we should file a suit in Wisconsin against them!

Who is Jesus bothering and why? What is the use of the statue? Who paid for it? If the statue was that of the God Pan, would have Christians groups objected to what they see as false Deity or a manifestation of the Devil? Would atheist object to Pan's statue?
